Consequences of Taking Advice From Someone With No Legal Knowledge on Immigration

Have you ever talked to someone who against their better judgment took the advice of someone who didn’t really know what they were talking about? If you have then I think this will interest you because it’s going to affirm a lot of what you already know. I’m Hillary Walsh. I’m an immigration lawyer. My law firm is New Frontier immigration law and we’re helping immigrants stay in this country because it’s what makes America so amazing it’s immigrants.

Storytime

Okay so I want to tell you a story. My husband is a pilot, he’s an F-16 pilot in the U.S. Air Force. We are stationed here at the Lucas Airport here in Phoenix Arizona. And we have been stationed in places all over the world. I want to tell you a story about a time that we were on a commercial airplane. F-16s are mini fighter planes that have one seat for the regular airplane. We were in a huge Boeing that seats hundreds and hundreds of people. There were a lot of things going wrong on the flight and one of the people around us started asking ´´I wonder if there’s another pilot on board´´ and of course my husband is a pilot and he could probably fly a lot of airplanes but he did not speak up. He did not volunteer to take the life of someone else into his hands because he’s not capable or qualified to do that. And he certainly wasn’t going to jeopardize hundreds and hundreds of people’s lives.

Putting Your Life in Unqualified Hands

The same is true in immigration law. When you talk to your friends or to your family member or to your neighbor and they give you advice it’s like if my husband had chosen to speak up and say yes I’m a pilot on board and let the flight attendant know that if anything was wrong he could help. Because he most certainly could, he knows a lot about flying airplanes; he’s been doing it for nearly 20 years. He doesn’t know how to fly a Boeing 7-37, he doesn’t know how to fly a commercial aircraft. And your friend and your neighbor are not immigration lawyers. Your pastor at church might have been and seen immigration law changes come and go (immigration law changes that existed before I was even born) but the reality is only I practice immigration law. My Law Firm doesn’t do car accidents, we don´t do divorces, We don’t do bankruptcy, we don’t do tax law, all we do is immigration.

If you choose to let your neighbors recommendation be of the same value when you give the same credibility you do to an immigration lawyer that’s like sitting next to my husband in the airplane saying ´´I think you look like someone who can fly an airplane go ahead and take my life, family, whole future and put it in your very very unqualified hands´´. We don’t want you to do that, that’s why it’s so important to work with someone that actually knows what they’re talking about, who actually stays on top of the most changing area of the law ever; Immigration law.
